Don’t know about you, but I’m still recovering from BlogHer09 and the pile of laundry I came home to. Most of the people I talked to – especially the women who were attending the conference for the first time – got a lot out of it, whether it was attending sessions, meeting up with friends in real life or learning what companies like HP and Microsoft are doing.
With everything going on it was impossible to attend all the sessions. Luckily there was “liveblogging” of each session, including the ones at BlogHer Business. So if you weren’t able to attend, you can still read what was discussed.
Here are some sessions that may be of interest:
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Business of You: Bloggers are Pioneers in a Post-"Employee" World
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Room of Your Own: Gadgets for Blogging
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Blog to Book
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Business of You - Advanced SEO
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Business of You - Advanced Social Media
- OFFICIAL LIVEBLOG: Your burning questions about the BlogHer Publishing Network
But what if you missed BlogHer09? What other blogging conferences can you attend? Here are a few of the more affordable conference to consider:
- Type-A Mom Conference - September 24-26 in Asheville, NC. $150-200 depending when you sign up. Type-A Mom Conference is a unique mom blogging conference designed to help you take it to the next level. The conference will feature amazing mom bloggers talking about topics like power social networking, branding, blogging, finding your voice, and turning your passion for blogging into a real paycheck.
- Blogher Food – September 26, 2009 at the St. Regis San Francisco. For the foodies, this one sold out in a couple of weeks. If you’re interested, add your name to the wait list because they may open it up if they get more sponsors. I’ll be staying at the Westin at $200/night and need a roommate – so let me know if you’re interested.
- IzeaFest 2009 – October 1-4 in Orlando, Florida. You do not have to be a “postie” (member of PayPerPost or Izea) to attend. The conference is affordable ($229) and has amazing speakers. Plus you get a free day at SeaWorld, so consider making it into a family trip. (I was able to score a $100/night room (with taxes) using my AAA discount – and kids stay free!) Your spouse can rent a car and take the kids over to Disney World a few days. Or they can just hang out by the pool and wait for you to join them at SeaWorld.
I attended PostieCon after BlogWorld Expo 2007. The posties are the nicest, most welcoming and fun community I’ve met in the blogosphere. Just beware the cake plowers! (Thanks to Steve Sanders, I won a ticket and will be going.)
- BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2009 – October 15-19 in Las Vegas – registration for the weekend is now at $395 until September 14. I’ve attended the past two years and seen amazing speakers like Darren Rowse, Brian Clark, and John Chow. Rumor is that there will be a mom blogging track and they just announced a sports blogging track (Blogs with Balls – who was the genius who named that?) Last year there were tracks for CEOs, monetization, podcasting, beginners, and religious, political and military bloggers, too.
Grab and cheap flight and stay at the Hilton or the Courtyard so you can walk over. (Taxis are expensive in Vegas.) The parties are fun, but give yourself time to take in the sites, play some games of chance, or have a meal with friends. I’ll see you there!
- WordCamp – There are WordCamp meetups all over the world. I attended WordCamp Denver this year. For a whopping $20 and the cost to drive into the city, I got to see Ben Huh from icanhascheezburger, Micah Baldwin from Lijit, and Gil Asakawa, one of the first people at the Denver Post to reach out to bloggers. Attending local WordCamps are also a great way to network with local bloggers. Plus, you don’t have to use WordPress to get something out of it.
